Understanding GST InvoiceNow: What Businesses Need to Know

Launched by the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) in 2019, InvoiceNow—Singapore’s nationwide e-invoicing network based on the international PEPPOL framework—has been around for some time, enabling businesses to exchange invoices in a structured digital format. This reduces the need for manual data entry (and the risk of errors), streamlining operations for greater efficiency. As Singapore progresses toward greater digitalisation, businesses are expected to keep pace with evolving tax compliance standards. One such development is the recent introduction of GST InvoiceNow, a key part of IRAS’ push to modernise and streamline the way tax-related transactions are handled.

What Is GST InvoiceNow?

Under the new requirement announced by IRAS, all GST-registered businesses must utilise InvoiceNow-Ready Solutions to transmit invoice data to IRAS for tax administration purposes. Invoices not issued through InvoiceNow, such as those from point-of-sale systems, should also be documented in InvoiceNow-Ready Solutions and forwarded to IRAS.

So, what exactly are InvoiceNow-Ready Solutions?

They are a range of accounting or finance solutions—either off-the-shelf software or customised enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems—that businesses can choose based on their operational needs. These solutions are designed to transmit invoice data through the InvoiceNow network's Access Points (AP), enabling seamless information transfer via secure API technology. Once this feature is activated, IRAS will automatically receive a digital copy whenever an invoice is issued or received through InvoiceNow, or even when other invoice types are manually entered into the system.

Using InvoiceNow-Ready Solutions not only helps businesses meet the new GST reporting requirements more efficiently, but also reduces errors and manual work. Beyond compliance, businesses can benefit from faster GST refunds due to fewer audits, lower admin costs, and useful features-like alerts for incorrect GST charges from non-registered suppliers. These advantages translate into real cost savings and free up resources for business growth and innovation.

A soft launch for early adoption (non-mandatory) began on 1 May 2025, and IRAS continues to encourage all GST-registered businesses—as well as those applying for GST registration from this date onward—to start transmitting their invoice data using InvoiceNow-Ready Solutions via the InvoiceNow network.

To give businesses ample time to adjust, the GST InvoiceNow Requirement will be rolled out gradually in phases:

  • Starting 1 November 2025, it will be mandatory for newly incorporated* companies that apply for voluntary GST registration

  • From 1 April 2026, the requirement will extend to any business that applies for voluntary GST registration, regardless of incorporation date or business constitution.

In addition, there are plans to progressively extend the mandatory requirement to include new mandatory GST registrants and remaining GST-registered businesses.

What This Means for Your Business

With the implementation of the new GST InvoiceNow, businesses must ensure their invoicing systems are equipped to transmit data to IRAS via InvoiceNow.

To support this transition, IRAS has classified solution providers into different categories based on their involvement and capabilities in delivering GST C5-compliant solutions: Understanding these categories can help you make informed decisions for your business.

1. Approved Solution Providers (IRSP-Accredited Vendors)

These vendors have developed and are fully responsible for their InvoiceNow connectors, ensuring they meet all GST InvoiceNow compliance requirements. Brand principals —those who own and manage the product/solution—are also recognised under this category.

At AFON, we are proud to be an IRAS-Accredited Vendor for both:

As an IRSP (InvoiceNow Ready Solution Provider), we are not only accredited but also develop and maintain the connector solution that enables seamless e-invoicing for our clients. This means businesses using our solutions can trust that they are fully aligned with the latest GST invoicing regulations, and have a direct, supported path toward compliance.

2. Non IRSP-Accredited Vendors

Unlike accredited vendors, they do not develop their own InvoiceNow connectors. Instead, these resellers rely on software providers/brand principals for the connector, and typically depend on them for technical support, maintenance, and updates.

It’s important for businesses using reseller solutions to verify that their software provider’s connector is fully ready and compliant before the mandate kicks in.

For those considering their options, it's important to choose a provider accredited by IRAS - like AFON, to ensure compliance with GST InvoiceNow requirements. Opt for vendors who develop and maintain their own InvoiceNow connector—they typically offer more reliable support, faster updates, and better control over integration. Also, consider how well the solution fits into your overall business systems. A future-ready partner will not only help you stay compliant but also support your digital transformation in the long run.
